demo reel student

This is the demo reel that landed my first job in the industry (well it was an apprenticeship) at Rhythm & Hues Studios.  It is comprised of student work created at my Alma-mater, The Savannah College of Art & Design.

Shot Contributions

Fallat Logo Animation

  • Illustrator
  • Photoshop
  • After Effects

Interior to Painting

  • Maya
  • Mental Ray
  • Photoshop

This project was created for one of the final Studio classes required to complete the Visual Effects major at SCAD.  The main goal was to experiment with different lighting scenarios in Mental Ray.

Anna’s Head

  • Maya
  • Mental Ray
  • Photoshop

I wanted to go out big for my final studio class and naively attempted to cross the bridge of the “uncanny valley.”  I modeled, textured, and groomed the head from photo reference (which I astutely left out).  While the results weren’t great, the experience of getting familiar with subsurface scattering shading models and hair grooming proved to be invaluable for future projects in the industry.

Renderman Displacement Shaders

  • Renderman
  • Cutter Compiler
  • Maya

Using renderman, I created these procedural displacement map shaders to simulate rippling water on a calm river and a flickering flame.

Twister

  • Houdini
  • Shake
  • After Effects

For my third particle project, I attempted to create a tornado in Houdini.  The shot turned out pretty good considering it was only a two week project.  Color correction and and composite done in Shake and camera shake added in After Effects.

Lava Flow

  • Houdini
  • Shake
  • Renderman
  • Maya

I created this project using several different packages.  The lava was created in Houdini, the refraction effect was rendered in Renderman, and it was all comped together with Shake.

Match to Live Action

  • Maya
  • Mental Ray
  • Photoshop

The main goal for this project, was to match the lighting, textures, and lookdev of a photograph using global illumination techniques in Mental Ray.
